How We Research, Test & Compare Credit Cards
Our mission is to bring transparency and mathematical rigor to consumer credit card decisions.
1. Official Source Verification
Card terms (annual fee, APR range, foreign transaction fee, welcome offer, earning rates) are compiled into a single dataset and each card links to the issuer's official page. Figures are an editorial snapshot. Where we have read the issuer's public page ourselves, the card shows which fields were checked and on what date ("partially checked"); everything else is marked "pending verification" and has not been checked line by line against the issuer's current terms. Some issuer pages could not be read by our tools, so those cards remain pending.
Issuers change fees, APRs and bonuses often. Always confirm the current terms on the issuer's application page before applying; that page is the only authoritative source.
2. The Net Rewards Calculation Formula
A major issue with typical affiliate websites is hyping gross rewards while ignoring the dragging cost of annual fees. Our comparison model calculates Net Annual Value:
If a $795 card yields $600 in rewards for your spending profile, its net value is -$195. We explicitly show when a premium card costs you more than it earns.
3. Editorial Independence
Our "Winner" conclusions are editorial judgments based on cost, benefits and the breakeven math shown on each page. The calculator uses the multipliers stored in our dataset and a simplified model (no caps, no point-value differences), so treat results as estimates.
When our team recommends a card, we detail both who should get it and—crucially—who should avoid it.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Disclaimers
We adhere to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) guidelines and FTC endorsement standards. Credit card approval is subject to individual creditworthiness evaluated by the respective issuing bank. CardVersusCard does not provide personalized legal or financial advice.
